Our History

J & J Tree Trimming is a family-owned business dedicated to providing the right services at the right price. Owners, John Colvin and Josh Denman are brothers-in-law with over 25 years of combined experience. J & J Tree Trimming LLC was founded in April of 2015, John and Josh started with a single pick-up truck, chainsaw, a few ropes and a borrowed trailer. Through hard work and persistence, they have grown J & J into a successful business today. Now with 10 full time employees, a fleet of multiple specialized vehicles and mobile equipment as well as their own advanced experience and training in the industry, the J & J team pride themselves on offering creative solutions to meet the individual needs of all of their customers.

Josh started in the tree industry in 1998 working for a local tree company as an applicator treating trees for pests and diseases.  In 1999 Josh joined the IBEW local 17, where he completed a 3-year apprenticeship and became a journeymen tree trimmer. During his 15 years at the union, he worked around powerlines, clearing and removing trees, Josh specialized in inaccessible trees that required advanced rigging measures. Josh completed advanced training courses and became an IBEW training instructor. Today, Josh is in charge of J & J’s Safety Division, making sure all employees and jobsites are safe. Josh also heads the J & J Storm Division, working with utility contactors throughout the US. Josh is a Certified Tree Care Safety Specialist and a Certified Tree Climber Specialist.

John started his tree career in 2012 when he joined the IBEW Local 17, he completed a 3-year apprenticeship program and became a journeyman tree trimmer. Prior to tree work, John had worked in the family masonry business dating back to the early 1990’s. His experiences during those years included positions such as Brick Mason, Stone Mason and Masonry Estimator. Although John enjoyed this work, he was looking for a change.  He decided to join his brother-in-law in the tree industry and swiftly learned the trade. John quickly mastered the art of rigging and climbing trees, as well as how to safely and effectively care for trees and shrubs to ensure their health and longevity.  Today, John is in charge of J & J’s Residential Division. He looks forward to meeting with new and past homeowners to discuss their tree related needs. John is known for his quick response time when doing estimates. John has a range of experience working with trees, from bidding jobs, trimming around homes to trimming around powerlines and doing large and small tree removals. John is a Certified Tree Care Safety Specialist and a Certified Tree Climber Specialist.

Josh and John bring to their family business, their background as IBEW-trained journeymen, completing 3-year apprenticeships as part of their training, and bringing with them various certifications that aid in their ability to provide exceptional services to clients.
